Last Hero in China - Jet Li, Leung Kar Yan, Lau Kar Fai (Gordon Liu), Adam Cheng, Nat Chan
1/5
Almost everything in this movie is wirework, with standard "Oh I love Jet Li" stuff where Jet doesn't do any real martial arts but the director leaves that up to doubles. If you like wirework, you'll like this. There are about 40 good seconds of actual martial arts, but that's not even worth it because divide that by about 8 fights, that's 5 seconds worth watching of stuff in each fight. Don't get it for Jet's sake either. I feel this is a blantant use of him as a commodity.
Legend of the Wolf - Donnie Yen, Ben Lam, some others
5/5
Donnie's directoral debut. Many complain that the camerawork is bad in this. I feel otherwise. This is a raw power movie that will pump blood through your veins like draino. Donnie picked a very powerful soundtrack that plays during each fight (different music), plus a theme song that just works, and it's well executed. He and a stunt man have a great fight that lasts 4 minutes long and goes at light speed, and Ben Lam takes him on at the end and the fighting style totally changes at that point to lots of slowmo and emphasis on moves and technique. The story is shelled, though, inside a memory. So, skip the first 10 minutes and forget the last 10 minutes because it's detrimental to everything in my opinion. Great film and better than many newer movies, and with a big Donnie style too. Almost experimental.
Legend of Wisely - Sam Hui, Ti Lung, Joey Wang
2/5
An interesting Indiana Jones kind of movie with no memorable scenes really, just some ok action, with Ti Lung doing the good work. Hui is likable as always but can't fight. If you like Indiana Jones and HK films you'll like this one. Don't bother for the sake of martial arts or good stunts.
